Home Invasion Burglary

ImageCashmere,WA (CCSD) - Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum reports on April 20, 2008,  at 1147 PM  Rivercom Dispatch advised Deputies of a burglary at the 6600 block of Hay Canyon Road in Cashmere.  The reporting party, Merle Leroy Shellenbarger said his front door was torn down and subjects were in his residence.  He said he woke up and confronted two males in the living room area of the home; both ran out the front door and left in a white car.  They left towards the highway (US 2).  Shellenbarger called back and said there were two occupants in the vehicle and it was a white “Corolla-type” vehicle.  He further stated as they were leaving he shot his 40 caliber pistol at the vehicle three times to scare them off.

Pig Jig and More for Manson Apple Blossom

ImageManson,WA (MVT) - The Pig Jig Run/Walk has become a tradition of the Manson Apple Blossom Festival and for the past seven years has been wholly sponsored by North Cascades National Bank.  Kyla Allen, a former Manson Queen and marketing director for NCNB, has organized and runs the Pig Jig which takes place just prior to the Parade on Saturday, May 10th.

Manson Kids Participate in Apple Blossom Preparations

ImageManson,WA (MVT) - “Golden Glamour” is this years theme and designer Graham Thomas, depicts the glamour of the Queen showing off the apple with appropriate wording.  Graham, son of Phil and Celeste Thomas, is a budding photographer, writer, sculpturer and won an award coming home with the Best of Show in the Northwest Regional Art Show this season.

Apple Blossom 2008 Float Construction

ImageManson, WA (MVT) - Building a float to carry Manson Festival Royalty is something Diana Ellsworth has been doing for the past six years.  Her award winning float designs have brought honor to the festival and this year a very special float will carry Queen Sierra Ellsworth, Princesses Keisha Neff and Laura Cross.

Manson Apple Blossom 2008 - "Making of the Crowns"

ImageManson,WA (MVT) - One of the oldest “traditions” of the Manson Apple Blossom Festival is the making of crowns for each set of royalty to keep as a memento of their reign.

Starting in 1947 when her daughter Marjorie was queen, Edna Bennett, decided they needed a unique crown highlighting the pink and white apple blossoms.

Manson Apple Blossom Festival Chicken Noodle Dinner

ImageManson,WA (MVT) - Golden Glamor, the theme of the 2008 Manson Apple Blossom Festival,  spotlights the Golden Delicious apple variety as well as the “glamor” of royalty, traditional festivities, and the hope of spring.

The Chicken Noodle Dinner has been a part of that “style of living” for many, many years and this year will again be served downtown at the Sowers Hall of Northshore Bible Church.  It is a short walk to the church located on Wapato Point Boulevard and cars can be parked there , if you arrive early, prior to the parade.

Manson Apple Blossom Series Part 1 - “Making Memories”

ImageManson,WA (MVT) - This is the first of a series celebrating the making of a festival…not just any festival but one that had its start in the decade of the 20’s…at the very start of a small community that had been formally named and land sold just nine short years prior in1911.

That Manson’s future lay in orchards was the common belief of these farmers who came here from many hard luck areas of the nation, and when they found that the ground was good, the water seemed to be enough and certainly the climate was ideal for these fledgling trees, they set about laying out fruit trees.    A sometimes consistent supply of water to these new trees came from a delivery system connecting the lakes above the project, notably, Antilon Lake, in above-ground flumes.

2008 Manson Apple Blossom Parade Grand Marshals

ImageManson,WA (MVT) - Tradition has played a continuing role in the Edd and Sharon LaMar families who are being honored this 88th year of the Manson Apple Blossom Festival .

According to Sharon, they have not missed one festival in all of the years they have made Manson their home, which started in 1968.  They arrived with a young family, Brett and Amy, who went on to graduate in fine style from Manson High School.  They now have families of their own and the tradition continues with Brett’s family coming up through the grade school.
