Should Manson Change It's Name? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gregory Kennedy
Wednesday, 26 July 2006

Special Interest - The community of Manson, Washington was named after Manson F. Backus, president of the Lake Chelan Land Company.  The name was a good one and did not really stand out more than any other small town name should.  That changed when the truth about 11 brutal murders planned by Charles Manson began to surface in late 1969.  The stigma of Manson carries on to this day, kept alive by singer/performer Marilyn Manson.  This has brought about the question. "Should Manson change it's name?"

An MVT poll shows an overwhelming majority does not want to change the name.  Many names have been suggested, such as C-Bay and Chelan Village, but most feel that the stigma attached to Manson is not enough to warrant the change.  Mansonites love their town and it's rich history.  The people have decided, let Manson Washington live on!

Randy Reed
Manson, Washington - Local entrepreneur Randy Reed of Reed's Marine is nearing completion of his new 6000 sq ft showroom in downtown Manson.  The new showroom is located at 120 Wapato Way, the previous location of the Manson Bay Market.

The building has been completely redone inside and out with the addition of large picture windows, roll up garage door access, an expansive sales counter at the entrance and a huge parts counter along the wall.  The outside of the building has been repainted with a sporty marine look and is a welcome sight that will help beautify the downtown area.

Randy Reed expects to open the new facility around September 1st of this year.  Most of the construction work has been completed.  Once the fixture work is done, merchandise will be moved in and the final touches will be applied.  Randy said that you have to "do it right" and his spirit can be seen in all this young man has accomplished.

Reed's Marine specializes in service and sales of larson brand boats but also has a large inventory of parts for many boat manufacturers and can service them as well.  His store at 222 Wapato Way carries an array of gear for fun in the lake as well.  Floaties, pull tubes, trailer hardware, batteries - just about anything lake related can be purchased here.  Randy can also get your boat lift repaired or arrange a complete rebuild.

Call Reed's Marine at (509) 687-1302 with your inquiries.
