Thursday, March 1, 2007

Contact:  Cindy Davis, Business Manager (509) 682-3503

Chelan, Washington - Join other Chamber members on Monday, March 12 for the March Chamber luncheon at Campbell’s Resort from 12 –1pm.  On November 6, 2006, Chelan PUD received its new License for the Lake Chelan Dam.  This is exciting news since it has been three years since the application was submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).  Michelle Smith will provide an update on what this means to the Chelan community including such projects as new trails, whitewater boating, and habitat restoration in the Chelan River.

Buffet style lunch is available for $9.00 ... in order to have enough food and seats for everyone, please RSVP by Friday, March 9.  Call the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce at 682-3503.

Manson,WA (MVT) - Terry Allan of Allan's Fishing Guide Service dropped by MVT this morning to give us an update on Mackinaw fishing in Lake Chelan.

"The snow was falling so hard, the shoreline was not visible.  Thank goodness for the Garmin GPS!  This did not detour the fishing as yesterday's clients brought up 14 beautiful Lakers", reports Terry.

Sheriff Mike Harum Checks In PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gregory Kennedy
Thursday, 15 February 2007
Chelan County,WA (MVT) - Sheriff Mike Harum of the Chelan County Sheriff's Department sends us this general update:

"I have been in Olympia working on a few issues of interest to our area.  I was able to meet with Governor Gregoire Monday morning to discuss issues with her budget more specifically removing 10 million dollars from the E911 fund to pay for an interoperable radio project on the I-5 corridor.  She has been told by her staff that the funds could be used for this project.

I explained that according to the law the funds that have been generated by a tax on our phones is to be used only to enhance our 911 phones throughout the state, not a radio project.  She asked that I meet with her staff to resolve this issue.  I have met with her staff and we need to continue our discussions in preventing the funds from being used for this project.   I hope to meet with the governor next week to resolve this issue.

I met with Adjutant General Lowenberg’s staff to discuss co-locating public safety office and the National Guard. We agreed with the concept and to continue the discussions.

I attended several committee meetings and testified on the following bills;

(I have indicated at the end of the bill description whether the Sheriff’s are pro, con or other)

HB 2013 - 2007-08
Authorizing tribal and Indian nation law enforcement officers to act as Washington state peace officers.  (con)

SB 5867 - 2007-08
Authorizing tribal, Indian nation, and bureau of Indian affairs law enforcement and public safety officers to act as Washington peace officers. ( con)

HB 1030 - 2007-08
Enhancing the penalty for eluding a police vehicle. (pro)

HB 1023 - 2007-08
Providing for broader collection of biological samples for the DNA identification system. (pro)

HB 1651 - 2007-08
Creating the boating activities program. (pro)

SB 5191 - 2007-08
Modifying missing persons provisions. (pro)

SB 5192 - 2007-08
Modifying the powers and funding of the forensic investigations council. (pro)

SB 5315 - 2007-08
Authorizing residents to access their property during a forest fire. (other)

HB 1219 - 2007-08
Creating an office of investigative assistance within the Washington state patrol. (con)

SB 5070 - 2007-08
Changing provisions affecting offenders who are leaving confinement. (other)

SB 5147 - 2007-08
Creating a surcharge on vehicle liability insurance policies to be used for emphasis patrols in high-accident-corridors. (con)

Thank you for you patience.

Sheriff Mike Harum"
