Manson, WA (MVT) - A major windstorm howled through the Lake Chelan Valley on January 7, 2007, knocking out power, tearing roofing from homes, breaking road signs and causing other un-tolled damage. The National Weather Service predicts another windstorm this afternoon but the forcast was downgraded from a high wind advisory to a wind advisory.

Even though the power to the MVT weather station computer was lost, the base station recorded a high wind gust of 60 mph at 1 PM on Sunday at the Lake Chelan Business Center in downtown Manson. The MVT web cam captured some nice stills of the spray on the lake. We then switched the camera over to video recording mode and shot some dynamic footage of spray rising over 100 feet.
The power went out shortly after 9 AM and was out for several hours. A second power outage in the late afternoon had some preparing for a dark evening but power was again restored after about an hour. The winds continued throughout the night, howling through trees and ravaging roofs of their tiles.
Unseasonable warmth topping over 50 degrees melted snow and ice that had remained frozen for weeks previous. Roads melted and then were blown dry to reveal fair-weather surfaces. The already-damaged fences at The Village took a second hit that flattened over half of the sections. There is hardly a person you can talk to that has not been directly affected by the storm.
Nancy Miller sent us some storm damage pictures that we have added to MVT pictures.
