First Friday - May 4th - Celebrate Mom PDF Print E-mail
Written by Gregory Kennedy
Thursday, 03 May 2007

Chelan, Washington – The theme this month is "Celebrate Mom"- Nothing says mom like the perfect garden. Each store will have plant seed packets for the first 12 moms who visit between 6 & 9 pm.   Each of our participating merchants will have beautifully handcrafted Mother's Day cards created by our elementary students.  5 winners will be chosen and receive a $20 gift certificate.  The winning cards will be viewable at the Chamber office.    Special guests will be joining us throughout the evening, Miss Lake Chelan and her court will stop by various businesses.

Kick off the evening with our third monthly Fitness Walk down the sidewalks of Woodin Avenue,   and then join the festivities of 1st Friday with your local merchants.  Meet @ Bonfire Grill at 6:00pm and if you'd like, continue around Riverwalk with your neighbors.  Scott McKellar and his wife have volunteered to take a group up to the site of the new Rotary Park under construction above Riverwalk Park and perhaps Miss Lake Chelan and her court will walk with you.

Moms are always on the look out for the hottest tips in landscape design. Linda from Red Apple will set up in front of the Church with tips on planting pots and hanging baskets.  Nancy's Nursery will set up in front of Sunburst with pruning tips special treats for Mom. Tony from Palazzo's waterfalls will be set up near Chelan Realty.  Valley Bloomers will be back this month along with the Rock and Mineral Club from Manson in front of Blue Moon with raffles to benefit the Manson Apple Blossom Festival.  Come delight in the sounds of the MOE Elementary Marimba Band

The perfect gift for the athletic moms among us is a spot in the first annual Lion Club Golf Tournament, or entry into the Chelan Century Challenge.  Lion's Club members will be near Kelly's encouraging you to join them at their Golf Tournament scheduled for May 18th @ Bear Mountain and  Rotary will have information about it's Chelan Century Challenge and Family Bike Ride and Boat Cruise fundraiser, set for June 9th.

Are you a graduate of Chelan High School?  There will be representatives from the planning committee for the 100 years of Chelan High School graduations on hand to describe all that is in store for the upcoming celebration!

Karaoke will be provided by JR's Bar and Grill-this is the perfect warm-up for all of those potential contestants in the "Manson Idol" competition.

The Three Amigos plus one will be playing at the Historical Museum and Habitat for Humanity will be open.

Mom could always use a beautiful quilt to keep her warm. Chelan's Senior Center will be raffling a quilt made by one of their members to benefit their new, planned building.

Is your mom a big fan of great food? Each month, Centro Cristiano will be selling tamales along with a bake sale to benefit their missions and local youth programs.  They'll be located in front of Radio Shack.

Mom’s health and happiness should always be at the top of your list. The LCCH Home Health and Hospice will set up near the Museum with information about their programs. PEO, a philanthropic organization, will be raising funds with a focus on providing women with increased opportunities for higher education. Soroptomist will be on hand with a fundraiser to benefit free mammograms for those in need.  Columbia Valley Community Health will set up with information on their  "Healthiest Business of the Year" Challenge and Shared Care program to combat diabetes-focusing on diet, nutrition and weight loss for both.

Mom was always your biggest fan when it came to those special art projects. Main St Gallery will feature artists in action with Steve Abbott working in watercolor.   An avid sailor and sea kayaker, he enjoys taking his camera to capture those unique reflections that can only be found from the vantage point of a boat and using that subject matter for his paintings.    Chelan High School Senior Art Student, Mitch Robelia, will be showing his pottery.  Each month student art will be shown beginning First Friday and throughout the month at each of the following businesses; Aston's, Carol's, Culinary Apple, Main St Gallery, Shirt Shop, Company 107, Riverwalk Books and Woven Threads.

Treat mom to a great night out! Campbell's will offer their free appetizer with the purchase of 2 dinner entrees.  In addition, the gift shop will always offer 10% for locals. The Vogue…a Liquid Lounge, will feature music from 8-10 pm, all ages welcome, no cover.  Experience live music; enjoy a glass of wine and a "slice of community".

Celebrate mom by joining us at this month’s First Friday Festivities
