Chelan, Washington(LCCC) – 2008 Winterfest: Fire & Ice at the Lake promises to be bigger and better than ever before. On January 18th and 19th, Chelan will bustle with a flurry of Winterfest activities—snowmobile races, snow and ice sculpting, a torchlight parade and a spectacular fireworks show. Fanta-Sea on Ice is this year’s Wintefest theme, and visitors will have the opportunity to ice skate at Chelan’s city park.
Winterfest is an annual community event held Martin Luther King Weekend, drawing approximately 3,500 people every year. The Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce hopes to draw an even bigger crowd with additional and expanded activities. This year’s event will kick off on Friday afternoon in downtown Chelan on Woodin Avenue. Guests can enjoy watching several ‘master’ ice sculptors at work. Downtown businesses will stay open until 7pm, and live entertainment will take place throughout the evening.
On Saturday, traditional Winterfest activities including a snow sculpture contest, keg toss competition, the Lion’s chili feed, and the annual chili cook-off will continue. New activities will include sleigh rides, ice skating, a Polar Bear Party, a barista competition, a children’s venue, and an indoor community stage with live entertainment. Take the family on a sleigh ride through downtown, and continue to the city park to enjoy ice skating. The Chelan Eagles will host the children’s venue which will feature kid’s karaoke, animated kid’s movies, and arts & crafts. The Ruby Theater will provide an indoor community stage with local performers and story telling.
Kick off Saturday night at the Fanta-Sea Torchlight Parade on Woodin Avenue. Finish at The Don Morse City Park, where everyone will enjoy a bon fire, polar bear splash, and a spectacular fireworks show. Finish the evening at the 1st annual Winterfest Polar Bear Party at The Deepwater Event Center. The party features two bands, a barista competition, and lots of fun for all ages.
