Chelan,WA(CCSD) - Chelan
County Sheriff
Mike Harum reports this morning,
December 6, 2007, “Operation Crackdown” was conducted. Two teams of officers from the Chelan and
Douglas County Sheriff’s offices, the Wenatchee Police Department, the
US Marshalls office and the
Department of Corrections searched our region for twelve sex offenders who have
violated the terms of the registration law.
During
the search the officers were able to apprehend two offenders, one in
Chelan County and one in Douglas County, two offenders turned themselves in to the
sheriff’s office, one offender was located in a treatment center in
Cowlitz County and will be arrested upon his release, and one
offender was located in Benton County. Officers will be attempting to
apprehend him and one offender was located in Stevens County. Officers will be attempting to
apprehend him. Officers have been able to gather information the last five
offenders and will continue searching for them.
The
program will continue into the future provided, sustainable funding can be
established in the upcoming legislative session. In working with Governor
Gregoire, her staff and the Executive Director of the Washington Association of
Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, Don Pierce, it is our hope to continue funding to
track and monitor sex offenders through out the State. The county Sheriff’s have done their best to track
these offenders but due to limited resources it has been difficult.
