ImageChelan,WA(CCSD) - Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum reports on Friday December 14, 2007  at 0146 AM hours, Deputies responded to a 911 call in the Howard Flats area north of Chelan, regarding a burglary in progress 223 Howard Flats Road, Chelan.  A resident was awoken to the sound of individuals burglarizing the business.

A Deputy observed a large SUV leaving in the area and attempted to make contact with the occupants to see if they observed anything in the area.   The vehicle drove around the Deputy’s patrol car and fled southbound on SR 97-A at a high rate of speed.  As the vehicle passed the Deputy’s patrol car, loud bangs were heard coming from the fleeing vehicle, the bangs appeared to be gun shots.

Deputies chased the vehicle through Chelan, down the Old Chelan Falls Road, up SR 150, and back into the Chelan area.  During this time, a rifle was observed being pointed at the Deputies through the vehicle’s windows. The vehicle stopped in front of 528 Markeson Street, where three males fled on foot.  At 0210 AM hours, the male driver (Ulises Villegas Copas 33 year old Chelan resident), was immediately apprehended in front of the residence.   Deputies began checking the area and initiating a perimeter for the other two suspects.

The Chelan County Regional SWAT Team responded to check a number of residences and the area for the two remaining suspects.  Traffic was detoured around the immediate area of Markeson Street/Gibson Street during that time period.

The two suspects are still at large.   One rifle was located at the scene of the final traffic stop.  The investigation into this incident continues by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
