Chelan,WA(CCSD) - Chelan
County Sheriff Mike Harum reports on
Friday December 14, 2007 at 0146 AM hours, Deputies responded to a 911 call in
the Howard Flats area north of Chelan, regarding a burglary in progress 223
Howard Flats Road, Chelan. A resident was awoken to the sound of individuals
burglarizing the business.
A
Deputy observed a large SUV leaving in the area and attempted to make contact
with the occupants to see if they observed anything in the area. The vehicle
drove around the Deputy’s patrol car and fled southbound on SR 97-A at a high
rate of speed. As the vehicle passed the Deputy’s patrol car, loud bangs were
heard coming from the fleeing vehicle, the bangs appeared to be gun shots.
Deputies
chased the vehicle through Chelan, down the Old Chelan Falls Road, up SR 150, and back
into the Chelan area. During this time, a rifle was observed being pointed at
the Deputies through the vehicle’s windows. The vehicle stopped in front of
528 Markeson
Street, where three males fled on foot. At 0210 AM
hours, the male driver (Ulises Villegas Copas 33 year old Chelan resident), was
immediately apprehended in front of the residence. Deputies began checking the
area and initiating a perimeter for the other two
suspects.
The
Chelan County Regional SWAT Team responded to check a number of residences and
the area for the two remaining suspects. Traffic was detoured around the
immediate area of Markeson
Street/Gibson Street during that time period.
The
two suspects are still at large. One rifle was located at the scene of the
final traffic stop. The investigation into this incident continues by the
Chelan
County Sheriff’s
Office.
