Chelan County,WA(PCC) - The instrument landing system (ILS) that allows aircraft to land at Pangborn Memorial Airport in low visibility weather conditions has been repaired and will be back in service late this afternoon. A faulty glide slope antenna was replaced, and the Federal Aviation Administration, which owns and is responsible for the ILS, performed a flight check today and recertified the system, putting the system back in service.
It initially appeared that delays in the availability of an FAA aircraft specially equipped to perform the flight check could have resulted in the ILS being inoperable for up to two weeks. The combined efforts of Pangborn Memorial Airport Manager Pat Moore and representatives of Horizon Airlines resulted in FAA’s prioritization of Pangborn for the needed flight check.
The ILS was made possible through the legislative efforts of Senator Patty Murray, and has significantly reduced the number of flights cancelled due to low visibility in the vicinity of the airport.
