Opinion (MVT) - I received the voter's ballot package in the mail today and something about it made me very sad.
It seems that the voter is not being offered the variety of presidential candidates that are available. We are being led to believe that in this country, there exist only two political parties. As an avid voter, I must tell you that the offerings for president from the two major parties do not represent my views of how this country should be run, nor do they offer direction for this country that will lead us out of the selling-off of America.
Democrat or Republican, it will not matter. Jobs will continue to be
shipped overseas while the income gap widens at home. Corporations
will continue to set national and foreign policy while voters will only
complain from their powerless positions.
The founders of this
country knew all too well what happens when power is taken from the
individual by collective self-interest groups. This is why our
government is based on individuals and not groups. Corporate lobbyists
are an anti-American force that has stolen the citizen's power in favor
of greed. The citizens of this country no longer matter to those in
power. It is the stockholders that dictate our fate. And all they
care about is watching their stock prices rise.
Bank of America
is controlled by Japanese investors. The greatest part of our national
debt is owed to China. They financed the Iraq war and are now going to
finance the forclosure bail-outs.
One should ask one's self;
Why would China finance the war in Iraq or bail-out American banks? An
obvious answer is that they need to keep oil flowing to finance the
industrial revolution that is transforming China. This may be true but
I believe it is a small piece of the puzzle.
When it comes to
big money, the nationalist attitude dissapeared sometime in the 1980's
when everyone started talking about the global economy. It seemed like
an exciting idea. World trade would bring prosperity to the
third-world while enhancing life in the rest of the world.
The
reality to the average American is now becoming painfully obvious.
Manufacturing and agriculture is dissapearing from our shores. In the
1950's, a man could support a family of four on a shoe salesman's
salary and see those two children through college. This is a true
story as one of those children is one of my best friends. He is a
published author of two books on mathematics, a chess master, a
brilliant engineer and a dedicated worker. After he was laid-off from
WorldCom, it took nearly two years of constant searching to land
another job - at half the pay. Why? Because while we were working at
WorldCom, the management brought in workers from India to study our
jobs. After we were laid-off, our jobs went with the Indians, back to
India.
The previous tangent is just one example of what is being
played out across our nation. It does not matter if you are
well-educated and productive. It is all about how cheap the
corporations can get labor. But even this is just a symptom of what is
really going on. And it has been happening for hundreds of years.
This
country has been raped of natural resources. This raping is the
calling card of the ultra rich and powerful. These people are above
countries and nationalism. Now that the USA has so many environmental
policies in place, the only thing the rapists can do is move their
operations to places they can exploit, such as China.
This rant
could go on and on but I hope that you, the reader, will get the
point. If you continue to vote the major parties, you are selling your
country down the tubes. I would suggest that, as a voter, you take the
time to carefully review candidates, other than democrats and
republicans, and see what kind of vision those that still care about
this country hold dear.
