ImageCashmere,WA (CCSD) - Chelan County Sheriff Mike Harum reports on April 20, 2008,  at 1147 PM  Rivercom Dispatch advised Deputies of a burglary at the 6600 block of Hay Canyon Road in Cashmere.  The reporting party, Merle Leroy Shellenbarger said his front door was torn down and subjects were in his residence.  He said he woke up and confronted two males in the living room area of the home; both ran out the front door and left in a white car.  They left towards the highway (US 2).  Shellenbarger called back and said there were two occupants in the vehicle and it was a white “Corolla-type” vehicle.  He further stated as they were leaving he shot his 40 caliber pistol at the vehicle three times to scare them off.

At approximately 1159 PM Deputy Reinfeld was waiting in the area of Hwy 2 at Monitor when he saw a light colored 80’s Honda sedan drive eastbound on Hwy 2.  It appeared to be occupied by two males.  Deputy Reinfeld pulled out and got behind the vehicle. He followed the vehicle as it turned south onto Easy Street, Wenatchee.  Then it pulled into BJ’s Mini-mart at 153 Easy Street.  The driver looked indecisive at first.  He started to pull into a parking spot and then pulled in next to a gas pump.  Deputy Reinfeld followed.   Two occupants got out of the vehicle.  They were later identified as Shawn L. McKee 33 years old, of East Wenatchee, and Brandon J. Hastings 28 years old of East Wenatchee.  Deputy Reinfeld contacted both subjects and noticed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the hood of the vehicle.  Additional Deputies arrived and located an additional bullet hole in the rear door that entered the vehicle and lodged in the opposite door panel.  Both subjects denied being in the area of the burglary but admitted to being in Cashmere.

Deputy Tyler contacted the victim Shellenbarger and obtained evidence linking the two to the scene of the Burglary.

Shawn McKee was arrested for Residential Burglary and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (methamphetamine).  Brandon Hastings was arrested for Residential Burglary
