manson trojans logoThe Manson Trojans girls basketball team finished another exciting week of games finishing 1-1.

On Tuesday we took on a quickly improving Liberty Bell team at their home gym.  The Trojans built a 8 point halftime lead on the strength of Baylee Ward's 3 second quarter 3 pointers.  We maintained that advantage for most of the second half until the last couple of minutes when Liberty Bell made a bit of a run, closing the gap to 5.  However, stout defense and patient offense allowed us to finish the game with a 6 point advantage 42-36.

On Thursday we hit the road again taking on first place Oroville.  After a slow start, falling behind 9-0, we settled down and closed to 15-9 by the end of the first quarter.  Ruby Garcia scored all 9 of our points in the frame.  Kendra Ellsworth took over in the second quarter, scoring all 8 of her points and we finished the half training by just 3.  The 3rd and 4th quarter was back and forth and tightly contested.   Unfortunately, our achilles heel of missed lay ins came back to bite us, as we missed 7 in the 4th quarter and ended up losing by 2 points, 33-31.  The game was a real confidence booster for us as we showed we could play with anyone in our league and also showed how much we have improved over the past couple of weeks.  In our first match up with Oroville, they drubbed us by 28 points.

We now have our final home and regular season game on Tuesday against Bridgeport.  It appears a district berth could be at stake.

manson trojans logoThe Manson Trojan's girls basketball team played in 3 games this past week, winning 1 and losing 2.

The first game was played at Kittitas on Tuesday evening.  It was a heartbreaker as the Trojans came away with a 1 point loss after leading by 4 with under a minute to go.  Kittitas made a 3 pointer and then capitalized on missed free throws to make a shot with under 5 seconds to go to steal the victory.

On Friday night, Manson hosted Lake Roosevelt.  Fouls played a huge part in the outcome.  Manson had 3 starters pick up their fourth foul in the first minute of the 3rd quarter and Lake Roosevelt took advantage, stretching a 3 point half time lead to 14 by the end of the quarter.  That was the final deficit as the Trojans could not muster a rally to close the gap.

Manson finally got off the snide on Saturday night against Riverside Christian.  The final score was 36-24 in favor of the Trojans.  Manson nursed a small lead for most of the game until finally pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Manson hits the road for two games this week, Tuesday at Liberty Bell and Thursday at Oroville.

manson_trojans_logoManson girls basketball team took on Oroville on Tuesday night at Manson.  The Hornets came out on top by a final score of 62-33.  The second quarter really turned out to be our downfall again, as we were outscored by 15.  Most of those came in the last 4 minutes, as we ran into foul trouble and Oroville took advantage of all the free throws we gave them, knocking down 9-13 for the quarter.

We came out playing real well on defense in the first quarter, holding the Hornets to just 6 points.  Unfortunately, we had trouble getting our offense in a flow and tallied just 5 points ourselves.

After being down at halftime, we had one of our better offensive quarters of the year in the 3rd quarter, scoring 17.  Maddee Ward led the charge, knocking down 12 points.  Oroville really hurt us with offensive rebounding, as they gathered in 27 for the game and resulted in numerous easy putbacks.

Maddee Ward led the team with 20 points.  Ruby Garcia and Raechel Vanderholm each collected 7 rebounds.

We play rival Bridgeport on the road on Thursday at 6 pm.

manson_trojans_logoManson girls basketball team played 2 games over the weekend, going 1-1.  On Friday, we faced Liberty Bell in an important league match up.  Manson slowly pulled away, winning each quarter, and ended up with a final score of 44-22.

We had a balanced scoring effort.  Raechel Vanderholm led the team with 10 points, followed by Ruby Garcia and Kendra Ellsworth with 9 each.  Maddee Ward chipped in 8 points as well as 5 steals and 5 assists.  Ruby broke into double figures in rebounds with 11.

Manson also had more steals with 20, than turnovers with 19.

On Saturday we faced 5th ranked Pateros.  They had completely dominated us earlier in the year so we were anxious to measure our improvement since our previous game against them.  I thought we played with a lot more toughness and resolve which resulted in a much better result.

We had one of our better offensive quarters in the first quarter.  Led by Baylee Ward's 11 points, we trailed by just one point, 16-15.  Unfortunately, all the good offensive vibes in the first quarter completely disappeared in the second and we were shut out.  The third quarter was better, as we played them pretty even.  By the 4th quarter, our 6th game in 12 days caught up to us, and Pateros ran away from us, getting several easy fast break baskets.  The final score was 61-29.

We were led in scoring by the Ward girls, with Baylee scoring 13 and Maddee 9.  Maddee and Ruby Garcia were our leading rebounders with 5 each.

Our next game is Tuesday, at home against Oroville.

manson_trojans_logoThe Manson Trojan girls basketball team traveled to Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday night.  It was a game that saw Manson fall behind early, keep it competitive, and then make a comeback at the end.  Unfortunately, we ran out of time and lost by a final of 45-40.

The girls came out flat in the first quarter and it took several minutes for them to find their comfort level.  Turnovers continue to be a problem for us and led to several easy baskets for the Raiders.   The girls made it a focal point to attack the basket more this game and were pretty successful as we got more lay in attempts and drew fouls for more free throws.

The entire second half felt like we were on the verge of taking control of the game, but either a turnover or missed lay in or missed free throw didn't allow us to take the momentum.  Finally, in the last 3 minutes we were able to rally to down 4, and ended up losing by 5.

Every girl who played made a nice contribution to the effort and they played hard until the end.
