manson_trojans_logoThe Lady Trojan volleyball team played two league games last week. On Tuesday, October 8, we hosted Liberty Bell Lady Mountain Lions and on Thursday, October 10, we traveled to Oroville and played the Lady Hornets- losing to both teams.

In Tuesdays game against Liberty Bell, The Lady Trojans started strong, winning the first set 25-23, but could not keep the momentum on out side of the net and lost the next three sets with scores of 14-25, 17-25 and 26-28.

Leading the team in serves were Kristen Gibson and Raechel Vanderholm, who both served 100%. Ruby Garcia served 13/14 and Baylee Ward served 17/18. Baylee Ward led the team with 5 kills while Ally Paige and Raechel Vanderholm added 4 each.  Kristen Gibson had 12 assists and Cynthia Espinoza had 16 digs.

On Thursday, against Oroville, the Lady Trojans lost the first set 15-25 and came back to take the second set 26-24 before losing the last two 20-25 and 19-25.  Leading the team on stats were Ally Paige and Raechel Vanderholm with 5 kills each. Cynthia Espinoza served 100% and had 10 digs.  The two losses puts the Lady Trojan volleyball team league record at 0-4, with an overall record of 2-6.

This week we host Bridgeport on Tuesday and travel to Pateros on Saturday, October 19.

"We are halfway through our season with a very young team. We plan to work hard to improve and expect to see some different outcomes as we play these teams for the second time this season."

"Our girls have already learned a lot about the sport of volleyball and what it takes to play together as a team, and how to be a good teammate both on the court and off. We are young and already have some big power hitters and some very consistent servers. When it all comes together, our win-loss record will improve dramatically."

Lake Roosevelt       7    17    24    24
Manson                   7    19    19    25

After taking some pretty good lumps in our first 4 games of the season our young Trojan team stepped up and played for a very solid 4-quarters vs Lake Roosevelt.  Our goal all season has been to give 100% from snap to whistle on every play for 4 quarters, win the turnover battles, and to be competitive at every position.  I thought that we were very close to accomplishing those goals Friday night and fortunately the score reflected the team's efforts.

I would have to hand out the game balls to two different groups on our team for Friday night.  Coach Bill Thompson's offensive line, anchored by junior center, Joe Toolson, did an amazing job opening up running lanes for running backs Mike Pittman and David Guillen, and giving our quarterback time to pass the ball.  I don't think that LR's defense touched our quarterback, Bo Charlton, all night.  The second game ball would have to go to Coach Constantino Montez's defense.  The tackling was led by junior LB Mike Pittman recording 7 solo tackles, 4 first hits, and 4 assists.  David Guillen, Alex Espinoza, Joe Toolson, and Julio Pena also recorded a large number of tackling statistics.  Besides holding Lake Roosevelt scoreless in the 4th quarter, the defense also forced and recovered a total of 3 fumbles throughout the game.

We would like to thank all of the Manson fans and community members that came up and supported the team.  The support is always very much appreciated!  We are on the road next Friday traveling to White Swan for another league game, kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
