TrojanHoops350The Manson Trojan Basketball teams beat Bridgeport last night- the boys put up an impressive 56-39 win, and the girls squeaked out a 47-44 victory.

In girls action- Manson outscored the Bridgeport Fillies in just 2 of the 4 quarters of play, with the score fluctuating between the teams- before the Trojans were able to outscore the Fillies 14-8 in the fourth quarter to give them the win. Leading the Lady Trojans were Maddee Ward with 19 points and Raechel Vanderholm with 16. Coach Toolson said "the girls did a good job of making enough plays down the stretch to win the game." This win puts the Lady Trojans record at 3-10 in league and 6-13 overall.

On the boys side- Manson came out with an early lead, and never looked back- winning 56-39 thanks to some impressive Trojan defense. Leading the Trojans were Bo Charlton with a season high of 21 points and Jorge Juarez added 12 more. Coach Erik Helleson said "we put together a complete offensive and defensive effort for 4 full quarters." This win gives the Trojans a league record of 3-10 and an overall record of 8-11.

The Manson Basketball teams will play their next game-at home on Friday, February 6th, against Liberty Bell Mountain Lions- JV games will start at 4:30, girls varsity at 6PM and boys varsity will start at about 7:30. This will be their final league game of the season-and will be Senior Night- honoring all seniors on both the boys and girls team, as well as the Manson Pep Band.

GirlsBB 1 27 15Manson Trojans hosted Lake Roosevelt in basketball action yesterday- with both Manson girls and boys on the losing end.

On the girls’ side, the final score was Manson 30- Lake Roosevelt 39, after a tied ball game heading into the fourth quarter. Head Coach, Kurt Toolson said, "I thought our defense was exceptional in the first 3 quarters. Unfortunately, we had some breakdowns in the last quarter that allowed them to build up a big lead. “Manson was led by the 12 points and 10 rebounds of Maddee Ward.

For the boys, Manson lost by a score of 51-61. Coach Erik Helleson explains the team "got to within 6 twice in the second half but couldn't get over the hump." The Trojans were led by Eduardo Escalera, who had 12 points; Spencer Ward with 11 and Bo Charlton with 10.

The Trojans next game is Friday in Oroville, followed by a home game next Tuesday- when the school will host a community dinner.

manson trojans logoThe lady Trojans volleyball team lost to Lake Roosevelt in 5 sets on Thursday, October 16th with set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-12 and 7-15. Leading the team for the Trojans were Kendra Ellsworth with 21/22 serves, 4 kills and 4 digs. Kristen Gibson served 14/15 and Brittany Serafini added 4/4 at the service line. Maddee Ward had 7 kills and 4 digs and Baylee Ward had 2 kills.

"The loss against Lake Roosevelt is a disappointing loss to our record- but doesn't take us out of the race to post season play," said Coach Hayli Thompson. "We have 3 critical games next week to keep us in the running and we plan to prepare hard and play at our best."

The Lady Trojans will play in a rescheduled home match on Monday, October 20th against Liberty Bell with JV to play at 5:30and Varsity to follow. (About7pm).


The Manson Trojan Football Team earned their first victory of the season on Friday, September 26th- beating the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions 46-35.

The game proved to be a real battle for the first three quarters with the game tied at 20-20 going into halftime, before Manson was able to pull ahead in the fourth quarter to take a two touchdown lead.

“Liberty Bell came out to play just as they always do, but we found a way to match their intensity and aggressiveness this year,” said Coach Scott Ward. “We played physical football and improved in each aspect of the game that was holding us back for the first couple of contests.”

Coach Ward gave props to the Offensive Line: Mason Cameron, Julio Pena, Joe Toolson, Michael Sanchez, Gerardo Guillen and Chayse Brooks for a job well done.

Leading the team was David Guillen who carried the ball 21 times for 258 yards- and had 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Bo Charlton rushed 10 yards and scored a touchdown. Mikey Pittman and Jorge Tejada also scored 2 touchdowns each, and Spencer Ward caught a pass for a touchdown.

On defense, David Guillen put up 10 solo tackles, 1 assist and a sack, while Joe Toolson and Jorge Tejada each added 5 solo tackles. Melvin Bernardo put up 4 solo tackles, Mason Walters had 3 and Mikey Pittman added 2 more.

The Manson Trojans will play again Friday, October 3rd at home against Okanogan- with kick off at 7PM.

Manson Cross Country team members ran their first race of the season on Tuesday, September 16th- at the Bridgeport Invite.

Three middle school students competed in the race. Leading the way was Bryce Lamar, followed by Cole Cochran and Blake Cochran.

Coach Kevin Sanford said that the high school races were well attended, and felt good with the number of Manson athletes who competed. “It’s great to have seven eligible runners this early in the season,” he said.

At the high school level, Sam Thomas was the first Trojan to cross the finish line in the boy’s race- placing 3rd overall. Angel Garcia came in 8th place.

On the girl’s side, Alyssa Hannah placed 9th overall, a performance that Coach Sanford said was fantastic for a first year runner.

Sanford said his team continues to get bigger. “Our team is growing daily in numbers- we have 21 on the roster to date,” he said.

Fans can continue looking forward to seeing more great things from the Manson Trojan Cross Country team.

This Saturday, September 19th, Manson will travel to the Wenatchee Invite. Saturday, September 27th, Manson will host their first ever Trojan Invite to be held at the Old Mill Bay Golf Course.
