Sheriff Brian Burnett reports on July 15, 2016 shortly after 8 pm, Rivercom Dispatch received a 911 call of a motor vehicle accident with a car striking a tree. The caller was reporting the accident having occurred in the 1500 block of Bear Mountain Road in Chelan. The reporting party advised the male driver, still behind the wheel, was not responding and that another male passenger and small female passenger had been ejected.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and determined the driver, identified as 23 year old, Eduardo Rodriguez Uvalle of Chelan, was deceased. Next of Kin have been notified.
The male passenger, 28 year old Alberto Uvalle-Verdin Jr., had been ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Central Washington Hospital by ambulance. He sustained a broken ankle and cuts and bruises. The 2 year old girl was also ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital and then to Seattle with serious to critical injuries. The girl is the daughter of the driver. It is unknown at this time if any of the passengers were wearing seat belts or if the child was in a car seat.
The cause of the accident was due in part to excessive speed. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved. The accident is still under investigation and more information will be released as permitted.
As of July 18, 2016 we have not received updated injury reports on the two surviving vehicle occupants. This collision is still being investigated.
