Sheriff Brian Burnett reports that a 75 year old male motorcyclist was injured Thursday afternoon while riding on the Mad River Trail approximately 17 miles north of Leavenworth.
At approximately 4:10pm, RIVERCOM dispatch center received a report of a motorcycle accident on the Mad River Trail approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead. The reporting party stated that the motorcyclist had failed to negotiate a curve and went over an embankment at a bridge crossing. He said the subject had a possible neck injury.
Chelan County Search and Rescue personnel and a medic from Cascade Medical Center responded to the scene.
At 6:28pm the first group of rescuers and the medic reached the victim. He was identified as Marvin H. Muir of Everett, Wa. Due to the nature of his injuries a Life Flight helicopter was requested but was later canceled when a safe landing area could not be located. Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue coordinators made a request for a hoist capable helicopter through State Emergency Management.
At 9:10pm when a hoist capable helicopter had still not been located, rescuers made the decision to transport the patient out on a wheeled litter. With the assistance of Chelan County Volunteer Search & Rescue members, the patient was transported 1.5 miles back to the trailhead. He was then transported by ambulance to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
