The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has released the name of the officer involved in Saturday morning’s shooting as Officer Kaiti Wilkins. She has been with the East Wenatchee Police Department since June 2016. Officer Wilkins has been placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure while the investigation is being completed.

SIU’s investigation remains ongoing; more information will be released as it becomes available. No additional information will be released today.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has identified the suspect who was shot early this morning as Cameron S. Ayers, a 25 year old male from East Wenatchee, Washington.

At approximately 2:05 a.m., the East Wenatchee police officer contacted a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of Bellevue St NW. While contacting the vehicle, the officer became aware that Ayers, who was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, had an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant for escape from community custody. While the officer was attempting to detain Ayers, three shots were fired by the officer. Two knives were located when Ayers was removed from the vehicle.

SIU’s investigation is ongoing; more information will be released as it becomes available. No additional information will be released today.

On Saturday, September 3, 2016, an officer with the East Wenatchee Police Department was involved in an officer involved shooting.

At approximately 2:05 a.m., the officer contacted a vehicle in the 200 block of Bellevue St NW in Douglas County, Wa. The officer was contacting a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle when the shooting occurred.

The victim has been identified as a 25 year old male from East Wenatchee, Wa. He was transported to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee where he later died.

The officer was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave which is normal procedure while the investigation is being completed.

The investigation has been turned over to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). The SIU team is comprised of investigators from Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Wenatchee Police Department, East Wenatchee Police Department, Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
