On 01/29/24 at around 8:05 pm, the Washington State Patrol requested the East Cascade SWAT team respond to Hwy 97 near mile post 218, to assist with the arrest of 38 year old Kamil Jelonek an East Wenatchee resident.
Jelonek had an outstanding felony warrant for escape from community custody. He was wanted by the Okanogan County Sheriff’s for a domestic violence court order violation and he had been involved in a lengthy pursuit involving multiple agencies, which culminated on Hwy 97 at mile post 218, in Douglas County.
When the pursuit ended Jolenek armed himself with a knife and he barricaded himself in his vehicle. Initial de-escalation techniques proved unsuccessful and the East Cascade Crisis Negotiation team responded with the East Cascade SWAT team. During the standoff, an approximately 4-mile section of HWY 97 near milepost 218 was shut down to all traffic.
At around 10:46 pm, members of the East Cascade SWAT team used a less lethal 40 mm launcher to knock the knife from Jelonek’s hand. Additional less lethal tools were utilized and at 10:53 pm Jelonek was taken into custody. Jelonek was medically evaluated and turned over to the Washington State Patrol.
